Description

The Indian Museum in Kolkata, sometimes also known as the Imperial Museum at Calcutta in British India era texts, is the largest and oldest museum in India. It has rare collections of mummies, antiques, fossils, armor and ornaments, skeletons, and Mughal paintings. The Asiatic Society of Bengal is the founder of this museum Kolkata (Calcutta). The founder curator was Nathaniel Wallich who was a Dutch botanist. It was founded in 1814. It has a total of six sections which comprises thirty-five galleries of cultural and scientific artifacts namely Art, Geology, Anthropology, Archaeology, Zoology, and Economic Botany.

Important Information

  • Museum is opened from Tuesday to Sunday. Timing: 10:00 AM To 5:00 PM, March to November. 10:00 AM To 4:30 PM, December to February. Entry Fee: Rs.10 Per Person.(Indian), Rs.150 Per Person.(Foreigner).
